OCEANMAN Greece 2019

For the third year in a row OCEANMAN Greece and Way-Out Adventures are organising the international open-water swimming competition, OCEANMAN Greece 2019. Following on from the success of the 2017 and 2018 event which was endorsed by the Association of Sport and Tourism Development of Mani, the race will be held at the idyllic bay of Oitylo in the heart of Mani. This year will see more than 800 participants in attendance from all seven countries spanning all continents.

During the course of the two days 700 men and women of all ages competed in the crystal clear waters of the gulf of Messini with the leaders not only claiming a place on the podium but qualification to the final of the OCEANMAN World Championships in Spain.

Previous competitors have represented over ten countries including USA, Russia, Spain, Germany, Turkey, UK and Greece. Thus evidencing that this is truly an international championship with high calibre athletes; OCEANMAN Greece has become the event of the year for swimmers and spectators alike.

The OCEANMAN Open-water Swimming series was established in 2015 as the world’s first open water swimming competition. Amongst its main unique selling points, compared to other open-water swimming competitions, it was designed by swimmers with their unique insight and understanding of the sport. Further, it is aimed specifically for swimmers who desire to compete in open water races.

The 2016 OCEANMAN race was ground-breaking as it was the only World Championship in the open-water swimming world, offering both professional and amateur swimmers the opportunity to achieve their personal goals in unique locations from Langkawi in Malaysia, to Lake Orta in Italy and the island of Tambarca in Spain; locations known for their unique natural beauty and beautiful waters.

As was the case in 2017 and 2018, the 2019 OCEANMAN Greece event will be part of the world championship which will allow participants to claim their place in the world championship finals in Spain.

The race will be held over the weekend of 29 and 30 of June 2019.

The athletes will be able to compete in three events:

  • 2.0Km Popular Distance
  • 5.0Km Half OCEANMAN and
  • 10Km OCEANMAN.

The 2019 OCEANMAN Greece event will also include 3 x 500 m relay races on Saturday 30th June 2019.

The relays will be Men, Women and Mixed categories.

Finally Oceankid will be the third race and reserved for those 12 years old and younger.

OCEANMAN Greece’s mission is to help increase the alternative sports tourism sector of Greece through open-water races. This type of tourism is constantly expanding on a global scale and not only helps athletes compete and discover new locations but also increases the tourism industry in the host country
